Purpose of this article
This article is for customers who have selected Autodesk-assisted migration.
It should walk them through exactly what happens before, during, and after migration.
What is Autodesk-assisted migration?
Autodesk-assisted migration is a one-time copy of UNIFI content into Content Catalog. This service is intended to help customers move from UNIFI to Content Catalog with a standardized migration process. It is not intended for content cleanup, reorganization, selective migration, or ongoing synchronization. UNIFI access is not interrupted during this process, you choose when to cut over your team after the one time copy.
Assisted migration process overview
The assisted migration process includes the following steps:
Try Content Catalog and Complete migration decision form
Prepare your UNIFI content
Back up any needed Content Catalog or UNIFI content
Optional pre-migration user check
Autodesk wipes Content Catalog, runs the migration and notifies you
Complete review and rollout period*
Configure items that require manual setup
Complete rollout before UNIFI is disabled
*Review and rollout period is 90 days from date of migration or end of access whichever comes first.
Step 1: Try Content Catalog and submit the migration decision form
Try out Content Catalog
We recommend that you first provision your account in Forma, download and install the extension and Upload a small set of content (for testing only, whatever is created during testing will be purged as part of the migration service) so you can see how Content Catalog works. Note there are a few changes, some features vary between the products, and administration functions are now accessible in Autodesk Forma admin portal. To help you get started see the resources below:

Once you have a good understanding of how Content Catalog can work for your company and want to migrate, submit the migration decision form and be prepared to provide:
Company name
UNIFI account name
UNIFI admin contact
Autodesk Forma hub name, ID and location (US, AUS, EU)
Content Catalog admin contact
Preferred migration timing
Confirmation that you understand the migration is a one-time copy
Confirmation that your Content Catalog instance will be reset
Confirmation that UNIFI access will be disabled after the review and rollout period
Step 2: Prepare your UNIFI content
Before migration, review your UNIFI content and make any final cleanup decisions.
Recommended but not required actions:
Resolve pending uploads, this makes for a cleaner review period.
Review and close out Content Requests, no requests will transfer.
Review external Shared Libraries, no shared libraries are brought over.
Review manufacturer Channel content, if you wish to bring over in migration, batch select channel content and right click, "copy to library."
Avoid major content changes after migration preparation begins. You are responsible to manage changes between the platforms after the one time copy.
Important note: Assisted migration copies content as it exists at the time of migration. It is not a cleanup service. You can make changes before or after migration. However, if you want to reorganize or selectively migrate content, self migration may be a better option.
Step 3: Back up content (recommended not required)
We recommend you have all content downloaded for backup from UNIFI, as well as any content you need currently in Content Catalog, as Content catalog will be cleared for migration.
Downloadable content
You can do a batch select when you download. Just select multiple with SHIFT or CTRL while selecting and then right click to download multiple. Note that there are performance limits that typically range from 100-500 items at a time.
Insert only content
The content below cannot be downloaded. Instead, we recommend you batch insert these into a container file (.rvt) so you can export the files easily at another time.
Sheets
Drafting views
Walls
Roofs
Floors
Cable trays
Conduit
Flex pipes
Any other Revit system components in UNIFI
Back up from UNIFI any time until end-of-access if:
You want a record of source content post end-of-access.
You have insert-only content.
You have legacy content that needs to be retained outside Content Catalog.
Back up from Content Catalog prior to migration date if:
Your team has already added content to Content Catalog.
You want to preserve anything currently in the target Content Catalog instance.
You are unsure whether the existing Content Catalog content should be deleted.
Important note: The target Content Catalog instance will be reset at the time of Autodesk-assisted migration. Anything currently in that Content Catalog instance should be backed up before you approve migration.
Step 4: Optional pre-migration user check
Before migration, customers may choose whether Autodesk should perform a user check.
The user check compares UNIFI users with users in the selected Autodesk Forma hub and provides a list of users that you can add to Forma. This helps determine whether users are already available in Forma before migration. Users and user-group associations depend on matching users existing in the selected Forma hub.
If you opt in, Autodesk will provide a list of identified UNIFI users for your team to review. Add any users who still need access to the selected Forma hub before migration; users who are no longer with the company or no longer need access can be left off.
We recommend the user check if:
You have many UNIFI users.
You have many user groups.
Your populated user groups are important to preserve.
You are unsure whether all users have been added to Forma.
You want to reduce manual cleanup after migration.
You want additional confidence that the selected Forma hub is ready.
You may skip the user check if:
You have a small number of users.
You have few or no user groups.
You plan to manually configure groups after migration.
You do not need existing group membership preserved.
What happens if I skip the user check?
If you skip the user check, Autodesk will not perform a pre-migration comparison of UNIFI users against Forma users.
Migration can still proceed, but your team may need to manually review and adjust users, groups, and permissions in Content Catalog after migration. Any users who do not already exist in the selected Forma hub may not be associated with migrated user groups as expected.
Step 5: Autodesk wipes Content Catalog and runs the migration
Once pre-checks are complete and before assisted migration can run, the target Content Catalog instance must be reset.
This means existing content, collections, user groups and associated content organization in the target Content Catalog instance will be removed.
Confirm the following:
I understand the selected Content Catalog instance will be reset.
I have backed up anything I need from Content Catalog.
I approve Autodesk proceeding with the reset and migration.
Next, Autodesk will run the migration.
Expected behavior:
UNIFI content is copied into Content Catalog.
The migration is a one-time copy.
Content may take up to 48 hours to fully process.
Customers should wait for processing to complete before beginning detailed validation.
Step 6: Begin the review and rollout period
After migration processing is complete, your review and rollout period begins.
During this period, you should:
Review migrated collections.
Spot check commonly used content and workflows.
Confirm tags and properties.
Check type catalogs.
Review file history where applicable.
Confirm preview images.
Configure collection permissions.
Configure company saved searches.
Configure content sharing workflows.
Train users.
Transition internal workflows from UNIFI to Content Catalog.
Report issues to Autodesk support before the review period ends.
Important note: Should you discover corrupt content first confirm in UNIFI that the content isn't also corrupt. If it is we simply copied content that was already corrupt and you should download the content to see if it can be repaired or replaced. Otherwise, any issues discovered should be submitted to Autodesk support for further investigation.
Step 7: Configure items that require manual setup
Some items may not be fully configured by migration and require action.
Collection permissions
Collection permissions must be manually configured in Content Catalog.
Recommended action:
Review migrated collections.
Review migrated user groups.
Configure permissions by assigning user groups permissions in each collection.
Test access with a standard user.
Saved searches
Company saved searches will need to be recreated. As UNIFI is not impacted by the migration. you can use UNIFI to see the saved searches and configurations to recreate.
Recommended customer action:
Review key UNIFI saved searches.
Recreate needed searches in Content Catalog.
Shared Libraries
Shared Libraries do not transfer one-to-one into Content Catalog.
Recommended customer action:
Identify content that was shared externally through Shared Libraries.
Content Catalog can share with anyone in your Forma members list.
Recreate required sharing workflows by giving users access to appropriate collections.
Channels
Autodesk out of the box Revit content will be available channels to reconfigure. Manufacturing Channels will no longer be available as they existed in UNIFI.
Recommended customer action:
Identify any manufacturing channel content your team depends on.
Select manufacturing channel content in batch and right click to select "Copy to library" to place manufacturing content in your own library to be migrated.
Step 8: Complete rollout before UNIFI is disabled
Before the end of the 90-day period or end of access date whichever comes first, customers should confirm:
Key content has been validated.
Required users meet user add requirements.
Permissions have been configured.
Content Catalog extension has been downloaded and installed.
Users have been trained.
Any migration issues have been reported to Autodesk support.
Any needed UNIFI backups have been completed.
Internal workflows have moved from UNIFI to Content Catalog.
At the end of the review and rollout period, UNIFI access will be disabled.
Assisted migration FAQ
Will Content Catalog be reset before assisted migration?
Yes. The target Content Catalog instance is reset before assisted migration. Customers should back up any existing Content Catalog content before approving migration.
How long should we wait before reviewing migrated content?
Customers should generally allow up to 48 hours after migration execution before beginning detailed review. This gives Content Catalog time to process migrated content.
Do we lose access to UNIFI once the migration is run?
No, UNIFI access is not impacted until the end of your 90 day review period or the end of access which ever comes first. End of access is as follows:
UNIFI Pro only - 7/31/2026
UNIFI pro + Project Analytics - 10/31/2026
Can Autodesk migrate only selected content?
No, Assisted migration is intended to copy UNIFI content as currently organized. If you want to selectively move or reorganize content, self migration may be a better option.
Is assisted migration a sync?
No. Assisted migration is a one-time copy, not an ongoing sync. Changes made in UNIFI after migration will not automatically appear in Content Catalog.
Can we keep using UNIFI during the review period?
Yes, you still have access during the review period, but Autodesk recommends freezing major UNIFI changes. Changes made in UNIFI after migration will not automatically update Content Catalog.
Can Autodesk clean up or reorganize our content during assisted migration?
No. Assisted migration is intended to copy eligible UNIFI content as currently organized. If you want to clean up, reorganize, or selectively move content, self migration may be a better fit.
Which Forma hub should we use?
Use the Forma hub where your organization intends to manage Content Catalog long term. Avoid using a temporary, test, project-specific, or incorrect regional hub unless that is intentionally the final destination.
Can the migration be run again?
The migration should be treated as a one-time copy. Customers should not plan on repeated migration runs.
Do migrated groups automatically mean permissions are fully configured?
No. Even if user groups migrate, collection permissions may still need to be manually configured in Content Catalog after migration.
Why do I not see migrated content in Content Catalog yet?
There are a few common reasons:
Migration processing may still be completing.
The customer may be using the wrong Content Catalog URL or regional server.
The customer may be viewing the wrong hub or environment.
You may need to clear your browser cache to refresh Content Catalog
What should we do during the review and rollout period?
During review and rollout, customers should validate migrated content, configure permissions, review users/groups, train users, confirm key workflows, report migration issues, and complete any remaining backups before UNIFI is disabled.
What happens if we find an issue?
Report migration issues during the review and rollout period by creating an Autodesk support ticket and choose Content Catalog when selecting software. If you find an issue that may prevent you from migrating please also report to the migration team for possible escalation.
What if migrated content opens but does not work as expected?
First confirm whether the issue existed in the original UNIFI source content. If it does please download and correct the affected content. If it is not please contact autodesk support.
What should we do if content is missing?
Wait until the 48hr processing window has passed, confirm the correct hub/region, clear browser cache, then report the issue during the review period. Include examples of missing content, collection names, expected behavior, and screenshots if possible.
What happens after the review and rollout period?
UNIFI access is disabled after the 90-day review and rollout period or the end of access whichever comes first. End of access is as follows:
UNIFI Pro only - 7/31/2026
UNIFI pro + Project Analytics - 10/31/2026
What happens after UNIFI is disabled?
After UNIFI is disabled, customers should not expect to log in, download additional content, or recover content remaining only in UNIFI. Content will be deleted in due corse.
